There is more than building

Of course you are primarily on this site because you want to know more about what EBS has to offer in your search for a villa on the Costa Blanca. Do I buy an existing and ‘ready-made’ house….. or do I build one together with EBS? You want to see those questions answered here.
Yet we like to share more and different information than just about a new house…. That house is located in a very special area and we are happy to tell you about it. In this blog you can read a wide variety of stories, tips, ideas or special experiences.

Use it to your advantage!

Markets on the Costa Blanca

What could be more fun than roaming the local markets abroad?
Every town or city has one. With its own charms, products and specialties. This blog provides a brief overview of some of these markets. Stories about each of these markets will certainly be covered in the future.

Where and when is there a market? A frequently asked question!

On the Costa Blanca, as in many other Spanish regions, there are two types of markets. The permanent, often covered and cool ‘Mercados’ for food and the often weekly market squares full of stalls and their products, which are much broader than just food and drink…

Overview of the weekly markets:

Monday: Denia, Parcent
Tuesday: Jalón
Wednesday: Teulada, Benitachell, Calpe
Thursday: Jávea, Old town
Friday: Moraira, Denía (fruit & vegetables), Gata de Gorgos,
Saturday: Benissa, Calpe, Pedreguer, Jalón (Farmers Market)
Sunday: Jesus Pobre
More and more markets also sell organic products. Especially the market in Denia on Friday is known for local and organic products. This also applies to the Sunday market n Jesus Pobre.

In the larger towns and villages there are often covered food markets, where both consumers and restaurants do their shopping. The quality of the products is often good and because the ‘market hall’ is open every day, there are many fresh products.

Javea also has a beautiful old food market in the old town, including a few terraces, where many locals often drink their cortado. The old town of Javea is certainly worth an extensive visit.

Next door is the food market of Denia.

Which beach is the best?

Another question we frequently receive from new residents or tourists from the Netherlands or Belgium.

“It must be a sandy beach.” then follows after that. Since the Costa Blanca is a coastline, there are of course beaches. In all shapes and sizes and also with various surfaces.

We limit ourselves here to the beaches from Denia to Calpe, just as we have also defined that area a bit as our ‘building territory’. Not that others can’t build here, but more that we ourselves don’t build outside that area.

To start with Denia, we also have the longest sandy beach on the Costa Blance. Because the landscape north of Denia, up to and including Valencia, is completely flat, a beautiful and very long sandy beach has formed here over the years. There is no less than 10 km of beach available here, from Denia to Gandia.
It is a narrow strip, but due to the lack of tides, it can be used optimally.

Also south of Denia and the Montgo, near Javea, is another strip of flat land. There is also class here, but a bit more capricious than in Denia; it is part rock and part sand. A so-called urbanizacion of Javea is Arenal. This is a relatively narrow strip of development, parallel to the sea, with a sandy beach and many apartment buildings. The beach is ‘surrounded’ by shops and restaurants and therefore has a somewhat touristic character. Fortunately, it is only touristy in the months of July and August…..

Besides the larger sandy beaches of Denia and Moraira centre, there are several beautiful Ydilic small bays between Javea and Calpe with a sandy or pebble beach.

The most famous are Portixol and Granadella in Javea, but there are even several between Morara and Calpe.
In order from north to south; Cala Baladrar, Cala Avocat, Cala de Llobella and Playa de Fustera.
There are now also (small) restaurants or bars on all these beaches, so that a day at the beach is fully equipped.

In the summer you will see that they are no longer ‘well-kept’ secrets, so you have to be there early.
