Peek inside…

They chose to have a second house on the Costa Blanca. Why? What were they looking for? And how did they find it? Monique, Arnoud, Emelin and Egbert preceded you and have been kind enough to open the doors of their houses and tell you about their decisions and experiences. Read their stories.

Karin’s parents had a holiday home in Jávea for twenty years. Karin, Arnoud and the boys spent pretty much every summer holiday there. ‘We always said to each other: if we ever buy a house in Spain, it’ll be in Jàvea, ‘ Arnoud tells us. ‘Preferably one of those old, characteristic fincas.

“When the time came, we looked at a whole lot of houses, but none of them was right. Most people want a sea view. But we wanted a house on the periphery of the old village centre of Jávea where the everyday life of the Spanish people takes place. A short walk from the historic centre with its narrow streets, heritage buildings, convivial pavement cafés and delicious tapas. The real Spain, with the typical Spanish family homes which are rarely up for sale. Until the estate agent said: I’ve also got a plot I want to show you. And it was exactly right! Perfect!”

Karin & Arnoud

“The large roofed patio is the nicest place in the house.”

An empty plot with almond trees, beautiful view of the valley and… at the edge of the village! They found Andries through a friend of a friend. ‘A skilled builder who knows his trade and if there was the slightest problem, jumped into his car straight away and sorted it out. Together, we built a lovely, modern house but with the feel of an old finca. It has three bedrooms, making it suitable for six people. Not really big, but really cosy. The living room with open kitchen is the heart of the house. The large roofed patio is the nicest place in the house. It’s the spot where the Spanish people themselves usually spend the day. And from there, we can see far into the hinterland. We mainly live outdoors here, enjoying each other’s company.

‘And when we’re in Jávea and the door swings open, we think: This is it! I’m home again. It’s a house where we feel at home. We’d like nothing better than to come to our house in Spain as often as possible, but in any case every summer holiday with the boys. We’ve built up a friendship with Andries and the creative solutions we came up with together are often used as examples.’
