Peek inside...

They chose to have a second house on the Costa Blanca. Why? What were they looking for? And how did they find it? Monique, Arnoud, Emelin and Egbert preceded you and have been kind enough to open the doors of their houses and tell you about their decisions and experiences.

“Our first time in Javea was a friends wedding on the beach against the backdrop of a high mountain ridge. A short introduction of four days. But memorable. Jávea came into the picture again through a friend who had a second house built here. By Andries.”

Cees and his wife Emelin had been dreaming of a second home for some time and had drawn up a list of more than thirty features. “The distance from the airport to the house had to be manageable. Without gravel roads. Three hundred days of sunshine, at least. Near a city. Good restaurants and nice beaches within walking distance.

A swimming pool of course. Enough bedrooms. A garage and separate storage for my racing bikes. The house could be located in about nine locations in Europe. First we went to look in Javea. A shell house just above the old town. At the bottom of the empty pool I looked around again and said, ‘Should we do this one?!’”

The house was already there and they were able to finish it quite quickly. With Andries. “It’s fine to order a meal in Spanish in a restaurant, but building a house is something else. A Dutch builder is very nice. And the nice thing is, Andries always tries to make what you want. We wanted a milled banister that doesn’t get in the way when you lift your suitcases up. He has fun making that happen. The result is great.”

The layout of the house has been slightly adjusted to make five bedrooms possible. All rooms overlook the valley, a panoramic view of the fifteen kilometers between Jávea and Benitachell. “Here you have a clear starry sky in the evening and a valley full of lights. The patio in the middle of the living room is special with the large palm tree that is beautifully lit in the dark.

The house is – also very useful – equipped with home automation. I can answer the parcel deliverer from the Netherlands, let him in and close the door behind him. The gardener can also enter safely.”

Cees & Emelin

“We especially want to enjoy the house and have as little hassle as possible.”

“It is quiet here, no busy roads in front of our house and a large nature reserve behind the house. A lot different than at home in Amsterdam, but that variety is nice. In The Netherlands we live in an old monument. Our house in Javea is very modern: gas-free, well insulated, with solar panels and a heat pump. We love that as well. Above all, we want to enjoy the house and have as little hassle as possible.”

They settle in Javea for about three to four months a year. The two daughters have left home and they can also work there. “Everything goes on as usual, just in a different place. Doing groceries, working a little, going out for lunch a few times a week and riding my racing bike three times a week. On Sunday together with Andries racing club. Wearing our EBS cycling uniform again to advertise.”
